Since Winamp was almost abandoned, I started looking around for an alternative. Of course, Audacious and Amarok come to mind, but since nothing happened to good old Winamp, I lost interest in finding a suitable music player. Still, every time when I stumble upon a media player of sorts, I check it out with anticipation.

Silent films

JetAudio is no Winamp, but features a player interface and a media library.

The player has a lot of control buttons, but the most notable feature is the timer section. With it you can set a count down and an action to be performed at the end. For example, you can put a long ambient sound for sleeping and then set the timer to exit Windows after two hours. Alternatively, you usually keep your computer running overnight, you can set an alarm to start playing your music at a specific time.

There are twelve equalizer presets right under the graph and three effect sliders for wideness, reverberation and crossfade. Also, tracks are available as small buttons arranged in a matrix for quick access without a playlist.

Speaking of playlist, this can be brought by clicking a button but the more impressive one is the media center. There you can scan your entire video and audio collection and can also get detailed information about specific files.

JetAudio also features some handy tools. It can rip CD's to different audio formats, it can burn audio CD's, convert file types and record audio.

Conclusion

JetAudio is a good enough audio player and library organizer but fails at being a true media center. The ripping and recording features among others are nice to have and relinquish the need of installing additional software.
